Getting the Right Lighting – Part 2

Modern Lighting Ideas

Different types of Lighting for Different Activities

When planning the lighting scheme for your home, tall standing lamps with adjustable heads are brilliant pieces to add to a room. The adjustable heads can be dipped when all that is required is background light or adjusted accordingly to give you a direct light for reading.

You can further adjust the lighting in a room by combining dimmer switches with separate switches for individual light sources. Nowadays we are even spoilt for choice when choosing light bulbs – from ‘daylight’ bulbs which cast a slightly cold, white light, to the more usual tungsten bulbs, which produce a warm, yellow light. The bulbs that you choose will also have a bearing on the quality of light they produce.

Once you have identified the requirements, look at existing lighting in the room and take note of the power outlets. If these are insufficient or simply in the wrong place, they must be moved before any work begins.

Finally, candles can be used as a beautiful accessory to create a cosy ambiance and be the finishing touch to your ideal space.

A single table lamp provides focused light for reading and this can be emphasized further by surrounding it with well chosen and interesting accessories.
