This week LivingPod interviews INK Design. Below is the full interview with KC Tan from  INK Design.

One of the things we do when we introduce talented interior designers under the recommended interior designers category is to put forward some thought provoking questions for them to answer. This interviews give our readers a better understanding of the designers psyche.

What kinds of projects do you work on?

We have great experience in both  residential & commercial projects and do not restrict ourselves to a particular type of project. We are constantly looking forward to new projects and enjoy the challenges that each  project presents.

What determined your passion for design? Tell us about the moment when you decided this is the way to go?

I realised at  very early stage of my career that i have an eye for beautiful things and  passion for details. Interior design is a perfect vehicle for me to share this passion with others by creating beautiful homes for them to live in.

What are your sources of inspiration in your work and life?

I’m a fan of creative thoughts that takes me to places i havent been, i think anything has a potential to do that, furniture, painting, books, films, architecture and sculpture. This for me is a great source of inspiration. I also get inspirations from well known  designers and architects who are passionate about design.

How did you come up with an idea for a new project that you have just secured?

An appropriate amount of thought and time goes into each project to ensure quality and efficiency. This starts with the design conceptuals and ends with a quality finishing. We also spent a great deal of time  communicating with our clients, to understand in depth  their lifestyle preferences of design and materials.

Adaptive creativity to client’s request: Is it a compromise or a creative response to client’s needs?

A well balanced approach is creative and yet responses to client’s needs without any compromises to the end result.

What are some of the common decorating mistakes made by homeowners? What’s your advice on how to avoid or correct those mistakes?

Interior design is very personal and subjective. If you are clear about your own personality and style you can actually project that through your living environment. Unfortunately not most of us has this gift . Most of them tend to mix and match wrong materials, furniture and etc, resulting in cluttering and domestic chaos. My advise would be to seek the services of a good interior designer and invest in quality materials and emphasis on details.

Your work has a certain universal appeal what kind of clients do you think will be responsive to your ideas?

Clients who believe in quality are very responsive to my ideas. They  are more discerning in their taste and lifestyle choices.
